Budget-friendly steak braised slow in a chunky tomato and onion gravy until it cuts with a fork, a true diner classic.
Ingredients (serves 4)
- 1 1/2 lbs steak
- 1 onion
- 1 bell pepper
- 2 stalks celery
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 can canned tomatoes
- 1 cup beef stock
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp paprika

Cut the steak into 4 portions, season with salt, pepper, and paprika, then dredge in flour, pounding it in with a fork or mallet to tenderize.

Heat vegetable oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat and brown the steaks 3 minutes per side, then set aside.

Cook the sliced onion, bell pepper, and celery for 5 minutes, then stir in the garlic for 1 minute.
