  • 2 onions
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 8 slices bread
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup beef stock
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

    Slice the onions thin and cook in 2 tbsp butter in a 12-inch skillet over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 15 minutes until deep golden. Set aside.

    Brown the ground beef in the same skillet over medium-high, breaking it up, about 6 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme.

    Stir in the onions, beef stock, and Worcestershire and simmer 3 minutes until glossy.

    Heat the oven to 350°F. Cut the bread into slider-size squares and layer half in a 9x13 dish. Top with the beef mixture, Swiss, and the remaining bread.
